Jay Wilson says he is leaving Diablo 3 team and going somewhere else in Blizzard.
What does this mean? Either he doesn’t think he is right for the job or someone else does.
There is one memory of Jay Wilson that keeps sticking in my mind. Right near Diablo 3 released when there was tons of hype, I was following his twitter. He started declaring how his body was ‘de-toxing’ off of meat. I wondered, “Is he sick? Does he have cancer or something? Why does he need to detox his body let alone detox it of meat?” He is either some fruity guy or the Blizzard culture has become fruity. If I was hiring and someone said they were detoxing themselves of meat, and it wasn’t for health reasons, I’d run away from the person fast. Real men don’t think meat is a ‘poison’. I only hire real men.
I have Diablo 3. I haven’t played it in a LONG time. I’ve heard about the changes made, and I still don’t want to play it. Then again, I was never into Diablo type games to begin with (they keep reminding me of Ultima VIII). I never feel any achievement in the game. All I feel is spinning a hamster wheel aimlessly.
When the wizard invulnerability bug was known was the most fun I had with the game. I didn’t have to deal with the BS of the game, and I just killed stuff. Of course, nothing good ever dropped (even though I have all 5 classes to max level).
Before the Diablo 3 haters start celebrating Wilson’s departure, the problem may be with the company culture or something else. I’m really distressed that Blizzard takes years to release products. Starcraft 2’s first expansion isn’t out yet, and the game came out YEARS ago. Brood War came out the same year the normal Starcraft did. How does Blizzard think people can be entertained playing the same game for a decade? It’s not natural.
And why do I get the sense that Blizzard thinks they do hard work to put the game out and then they get to sit back and adjust numbers to keep people happy? We need BUILDERS, not BALANCERS. More games, not more balance.
