Email: Oil and government intervention
Master Malstrom,
Since you’ve been speaking so much on shale oil recently, aren’t you worried that the current political climate the present administration has created will ultimately tamper with your industry in the end, in a repeat of the health care fiasco that ultimately drove Christensen out of the States and into South Korea?

Not at all. Governments need the oil men more than the oil men need the governments.”But, but what about military to defend water trade paths?”But the military isn’t defending water trade paths. This is why oil men get hazard pay on rigs in South America and other areas of the world. The hazard pay for an oil man in Nigeria is incredibly high (up to six figures
a month) complete with free apartment, free airplane tickets, free car, and free whores. Oil companies routinely hire their own security. They don’t rely on governments for it.The reason why you keep hearing politicos keep saying ‘we’ve got to eliminate our thirst for oil’ is because they hate how they NEED the services of the oil companies in order for society to function. Politicos have no leverage over the oil men. This is also why oil men are only represented in news outlets as being stupid, crude, and vile… more of beasts than men. Oil men can also work anywhere in the world and are not confined to a single nation or culture. Illegal immigrants cannot get into the oil trade because English is the required language due to oil work being a maritime trade (as established by the British Empire). This infuriates the politicos even more. (Consider that the unemployment rate in North Dakota is 1%, FAR below the national average.)
Let me ask you this. Who is making jobs, building roads and infrastructure, and making life better in the economy? It’s not the politicians. However, the oil companies are doing these things. South Texas is no longer an impoverished area.
The current Administration’s approach to the oil boom is to try to tip their hand into the oil money as much as possible. They’re going for a higher taxation rate specifically on oil companies. In many ways, this is what the oil companies would prefer. The states are broke and with relying on revenue generated from oil, that means oil production is here to stay because the governments are dependent on their revenue.
Also, Obama’s adopted father was an oilman too, and Obama is entirely governed by the dreams of his fathers.
