Yamauchi’s quote should be re-examined

Yamauchi once said of Final Fantasy: “[People who play RPGs are] depressed gamers who like to sit alone in their dark rooms and play slow games…”

Throughout my life, my ‘tastes’ in video games changes when my life changes. When I’ve become depressed, I tend to play RPGs. When I’m optimistic and active, I play many short but difficult games (and more competitive games). I think Yamauchi was right on.

Today, games are so much slower than what they used to be. If every game has to be an RPG today, what does that say about today’s gamers?
