There goes Titan down the drain! I’ve been hearing from Blizzard people I know that there are tons of development problems going on inside Blizzard (in all the areas).
How long did it take to make World of Warcraft? I believe it was four to five years which was a monstrous amount of time, seen as then, for a video game.
When I heard about the making of Diablo 3, I began to get very concerned about Blizzard (as well as some of what they were doing with Starcraft 2). Blizzard used to make their own cutscenes. Now, they farm them out. Blizzard has made a marriage with Hollywood. The Diablo 3 sounds guy was saying they are no longer allowed to just ‘add in sounds’ to the game (like an employee screaming for a zombie). Because they are working with Hollywood voice actors, there are union rules to consider. With Starcraft 2, Blizzard dumped the former voice actress of Kerrigan (who I thought was great and no one had a problem with) for the Battlestar Galactica cylon blonde bimbo. Blizzard more and more wants to have a ‘cinematic presentation’ for a game where the games are turning into movies.
Gaming needs to oppose Hollywood, not be a partner with Hollywood. Hollywood has a mentality that doesn’t work with game development. Hollywood is about stars, gaming is NOT about stars. The only ‘star’ in gaming is you, the incredible player. YOU are the main actor. YOU are the genius of the plot, of the character, of everything. Hollywood doesn’t know how to deal with a participatory audience.
The Titan reboot is probably a good thing that it occurred. Good to see that there are some sort of quality controls still in Blizzard especially with the top. Any other company would try to ‘salvage’ it.
I say forget Titan and make Warcraft 4. Give Warcraft 4 such incredible modding abilities where people would be making their own MMO like adventures. Minecraft decentralized worlds are the future, not WOW’s central servers.
