Digitally downloaded games cannot be resold or traded. And the Game Industry keeps telling me, “Digital downloads are the future, Malstrom.” “This is the last generation that has a disc and maybe not even then!”
Why not just wait until ‘digital takes over everything’? The trend is there. Why this push to lock down games against the consumer?
I can see the history book generations from now. When someone is in Generation 15 looking back at Generation 8, they will rank what is going on with the heights of stupidity from the Atari Era. They will wonder, “Why didn’t these morons just wait for everyone to switch to digital download? Then they would never have to worry about used games. Idiots. No wonder their industry crashed.”
Another question that I have is if Gamestop’s practices are soooo bad, why do publishers keep selling to them? Publishers don’t HAVE to sell to Gamestop. There are other stores they could sell to. They could also put their games up available by mail or through other untraditional avenues. If Gamestop is so offensive, then why keep selling your games to them?
One thing about Gamestops is that they are brick and mortar stores. Those stores are expensive. One thing I know about game publishers is that they have no concept of the costs of a brick and mortar store. They’ve never run anything like that. The Game Industry wants a gaming only store yet that gaming only store wants to sell used games because consumers wish it so. I suppose the Game Industry could launch their own retail stores and show everyone how to do it right. (hahahaha)
The hubris has never been so high with the Third Party Cabal. I love how everyone needs to sacrifice except them. The console makers must sacrifice. The retailers must sacrifice. The consumers must sacrifice. But the third party companies never sacrifice. They just keep going on making more AAA blockbuster type games and freak out when no one wants them. I’ve never seen anything so absurd.
Does the Game Industry have a death wish? I think they are stuck on stupid. They literally do think they are ‘business geniuses’ and that we’re the idiots who keep buying whatever they put out (which they would be right concerning the hardcore).
Already, the hardcore gamers are getting ‘bored’ fighting the publishers. Expect them to be frothing with excitement to buy the Xbone after E3. What’s the alternative for the hardcore? Play Generation 7 (or lower) games for half a decade? They would become retro gamers! No, they won’t stand for that. They will ‘justify’ a purchase of the Xbone. You doubt ‘ol Malstrom, but you will see. All their talk is just that, talk. It gives the hardcore something to do while they wait for E3.
