“I suppose they think it makes them look ‘manlier’ and less emasculated. The truth is it doesn’t. Most women know that men with facial hair have very sensitive personalities and that is how they know to manipulate them. You will see deranged academics always have full facial hair like beards and shit because they are desperate for people to take them seriously.

The real movers and shakers of society don’t really have facial hair. Think of CEOs, lawyers, bankers, and people who have considerable power. No facial hair. When was the last time a United States president went around with facial hair? You have to go ONE HUNDRED YEARS into the past to the last year of President Taft who had a mustache. Those who think facial hair makes you look ‘manlier’ should re-examine the premise. Over the years, I have learned to trust women’s intuition in that the more facial hair means the more sensitive the man is. In all my experiences, it has proven to be true.”

as a man with facial hair I can only say is: are you serious?! now men with facial hair are deranged and crybabies? dude..come on, i have seen man babies with no facial hair at all. My dad it’s a fine man and husband and has facial hair. My math teacher was a “deranged academic” and has no facial hair whatsoever. It even look like a little boy and it was in his 50s.

I enjoy your comments and posts. But this is too goddamn stupid.
I never said having facial hair makes you deranged. I said crazy academics tend to grow full beards for people to try to take them seriously. (As if they are trying to look like Sean Connery or something.) Certainly, you can admit that there are people who try to grow a beard for the wrong reasons.Society ebbs and flows with its fashions. There are times when everyone was trying to have the handle-bar mustache. There were times when people wore powered wigs. Lately, though, it is my observation that the fashion for young men today is facial hair (for men, thankfully, and not the women. I think I’d die if it was the fashion for women to have facial hair).

So why is there a fashion for facial hair for men today? I suspect it is because some men think they will be perceived ‘manlier’ for it. In that Kotaku piece, the author said Stossel deserves facial hair for his defending of violent video games. To the Kotaku author, facial hair is flag of manliness.

Is facial hair a symbol of masculinity? This is why I made the observation that in most power positions such as politicians or bankers or lawyers or CEOs, I rarely see facial hair. Presidents haven’t had facial hair for a hundred years. If facial hair was a symbol of masculinity, then they certainly would be sporting them since they all want the most masculine look. It is why they run around in suits all day (where we know they’d rather wear something else).

If I want to know what manipulates a man, I ask an expert. I ask a woman. In Vilar’s book, ‘The Manipulated Man’, she mentions bearded men tend to be more sensitive, and women know how to exploit that vulnerability. In real life, I’ve seen bearded men be overtly sensitive. Your email further illustrates that point. Why send an email unless you were sensitive to that comment?

The reason why you should wear a beard is if you like it or it looks good on you. But anyone growing out their facial hair because they think it makes them ‘a man’ is going about it the wrong way. Confidence and courage make men, not hair. And women know the difference. And they know how to exploit it.
