Email: Why is Sony releasing everything for PS3?

Sony are releasing Gran Turismo 6 and the newly announced Ratchet &
Clank on PS3 only despite PS4 coming out around the same time. I
understand third parties hedging between PS3 and PS4; but these are
titles Sony had full control over and would be perfect for pushing
adoption (GT’s main appeal is usually cutting edge graphics).

What are coming out on the PS4, first-party wise, are Drive Club and
Knack which each can’t stand up to the above.

Is there any business reason for this?

Nintendo was still publishing games for the NES well after the SNES came out. Dragon Quest IV and Mega Man VI were the biggest ones I remember. The NES also got redesigned as the ‘dogbone’ controller.

N64 was delayed so the SNES was essentially dead when the N64 came out. Nintendo was having so many game production issues with the N64 that they dropped N64 fast when the Gamecube came out. With the Gamecube, Nintendo released Twilight Princess for it as well as a souped up version for Wii.

What Sony is doing is correct. The PS4 isn’t out yet. And people may not be able to afford a PS4 for years. Sony supporting the PS3 even after the PS4 comes out will make many people Sony fans. They know, unlike Nintendo, the console company will keep supporting the console and won’t abandon them.

Just because the Wii U is out doesn’t mean Nintendo should stop publishing Wii games. After all, the Wii U can play Wii games so what does it matter? But Nintendo abandoned the Wii. As a consumer, this makes me not want to invest in the Wii U. I know after a few years, Nintendo will abandon it for their next system. At least Sony keeps supporting their game systems.

LIST: These NES games came out after the SNES was released. This is how you support a system!

Disclaimer: This is not nostalgia jerk fest. This is pointing out how Nintendo did the right thing once upon a time and can do so again.

Disclaimer II: The games shown are games I think are only my personal choice of ones I think are worth playing. I am leaving many, many games out.

While NES releases began to dry up after the SNES was released, there were many EXCELLENT games released. With the Wii, Nintendo stopped trying in Wii’s last few years even before the Wii U came out.

What Sony is doing is what should be done. While it might feel funny playing a new game on the old system, at least you feel supported. Playing Dragon Quest IV when the SNES was out might have felt funny, but it made me happy to own the Nintendo. I thought such experience and satisfaction would be duplicated forever in the future. How wrong I was.
