One of the few good things to come out of this E3 is this little exchange about Metroid:http://kotaku.com/nintendo-is-planning-a-future-for-both-2d-and-3d-metroi-1590142491I like how Miyamoto is saying that Nintendo’s designers and Retro are both working under some guy named Takahashi – NOT Sakamoto. Not a single mention of Sakamoto that I noticed there. Hooray!
Also, I’m happy to hear that they’re open to continuing both 2D Metroid and the Prime games. I love both styles. Prime could be a lot of fun with some online multiplayer especially, like Prime Hunters did. And a proper 2D Metroid – without the Fusion garbage – could be a lot of fun.
It is a good sign to not hear about crazy Sakamoto and his ‘maternal instincts’. I just replayed Super Metroid, and I still can’t find any ‘maternal instincts’ in the game.
From old interviews with Retro, the Retro guys would say something such as ‘hey Samus Aran is a bounty hunter like Boba Fett. So let’s put in a bounty hunter mission’ and some extreme high resistant voice would come from Japan screaming “NO! She is a HERO!” We know now that that voice was Sakamoto. From the NES and Gameboy manuals, it made it clear Samus Aran was a bounty hunter. It’s not like she is an anti-hero. But whatever it is, it is better than what Sakamoto had with Samus Aran in Metroid Other M.
