Email: Wonderboy: The Dragon’s Trap, YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, and Other Interesting Physical Switch Games

You want a good Switch game? Well, how about a gorgeous remake of a Sega Master System classic?

This game appeared digitally on GOG first, then got a physical release. You can seamlessly switch between the original graphics and the beautiful cartoony hand-drawn graphics with the push of a button. And you can mix and match styles with more options for the music and VFX in the pause menu.

They are also making a new sequel to this titled “Monster Boy and The Cursed Kingdom” coming in September.

Another interesting title I may try is YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. Looks like a pretty good action JRPG releasing in June:

As for anything else you may like… Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2 is out. However, WARNING, you may wanna buy it used to boycott the dreaded forcing of part 2 as digital-only. Greedy, cheap Capcom. Both these collections should have been on one cart. They would have fit!!

But at least it appears you can buy physical of the first half used for half-price at GameStop. No harm in doing that, as you can just buy the second half separately from the first later if you really want to (and not support this anti-consumer insanity).

Looks like it’ll be the same story for Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2.

I personally have been enjoying Axiom Verge. The buttons are completely remappable, so I got it in a comfortable setup within the first play session. Yes, graphics are lame 8-bit stylistic, but gameplay itself has been fun and addictive. Definitely scratches that Super Metroid itch. It may not hold up over time, we’ll see. I can report back in a few months.

Rayman Legends is not an open world platformer, but I have had a good bit of fun playing through the levels in local co-op with my friend, getting all the lums and beating the time trials.

Azure Striker Gunvolt is an interesting Mega Man-esque game I have yet to play a lot of. Too many games!

I look forward to Crash Bandicoot on Switch, but that’s because I grew up with it. Given your track record with buying 3D Marios then regretting it, I’d say stay away. It has a similar issue to DKC Tropical Freeze in that there are almost no alternate paths or ways of replaying the levels aside from time trials. My nostalgia makes me feel like recommending it, but I know your tastes too well to do that to you.

Other games to look forward to are Sonic Mania Plus, MineCraft physical release (finally), Dragon Quest XI and Builders 2. You probably already know Rocket League is also on Switch.

There you have it, good sir. Plenty more to come. I appreciate your PC and classic game recommendations, so hope this helps you in return.

Hmm….
