Switch Hardware Review: Xenoblade 2 Special Edition Pro Controller

Nintendo has released several editions of Pro Controllers for the Switch. The Splatoon 2 one, though, is exactly the same as the Pro Controller aside from its plastic shell. The Xenoblade 2 controller, however, is far more interesting.

The D-pad was slightly altered on the Xenoblade 2 controller. This makes the controller’s D-pad actually serviceable.

“But how does it play with Puyo Puyo Tetris, Malstrom?”

Oh reader, I am glad you asked!

I play Puyo Puyo Tetris with the Xenoblade 2 controller, and so far I have had no ‘accidental drops’ of the blocks just shooting down. This controller works while the original Pro Controller doesn’t.

The market has realized the value of the serviciable D-pad. Due to scarce supply and rampant demand, the cost for the Xenoblade 2 pro controller will be steep. I thought it was worth it.

Does this D-pad rival the Wii U Pro-controller one? No. But it is a decent D-pad that works. Therefore, I give Xenoblade 2 Pro Controller an A. I’ll keep updating this review to see how it fares on other games (such as Street Fighter Anniversary Collection).
