Switch Review: Steamworld Dig 2

This is a review of the physical editions. I do not review digital versions of console games because I’m not retarded to buy things I cannot own.

Steamworld Dig 2 is the feminine Metroid. In many ways, the game is just like Metroid. However, the game is fairly easy and stress free. Bosses are rare, and they die simply.

Any review of Steamworld Dig 2, you see stupid reviewers use the term ‘gameplay loop’. What they mean is the loop starting from town, going to the mining tunnel, digging stuff and getting ore, and then returning to sell it, and upgrading your shit. This ‘gameplay loop’ they keep moaning about is the same with ANY RPG or dungeon crawler ever made. In many ways, Steamworld Dig 2 is a 2d dungeon crawler than a Metroid type game.

This is one of the few indie games where it doesn’t feel like a chore to play. You know that feeling when you play a game how it can feel like a chore? Very rarely felt playing this game. The game lasts around 10 hours.

Above: There are some cool scenes especially the memorable run through Vectron.

The ending of the game really surprised me. The final villain was not what I thought it would be, and the last act of the game threw me off. They don’t really leave the game open for a Steamworld Dig 3 by how they end it.

This is a game that excels at its execution, not its length. This game is fun to play. Do I want to replay it? Not after I beat it. I might return to it one day. You definitely want this game in your Switch collection.

Grade: B+
