What is Miyamoto doing with Skyward Sword?

“What we are focused on is creating gameplay mechanics so the gameplay experience feels very dense. In fact, the overall experience is going to feel more dense. We hope that people will want to go back and replay the game once they finish it”.

This would imply people have not been wanting to replay the later Zelda games.

Not sure what to make of this. Keep in mind that Zelda Wii was originally presented as Link having no sword. And this makes sense because Aonuma makes Zelda entirely about puzzles so why would Link need a sword? He should just run around Hyrule being ‘Puzzle Man’ and do nothing else.

I still think Zelda Wii will follow the pattern of modern Zeldas. The game will revolve around puzzles. The difference is that the hardware will define what the puzzles will be.

For the N64/Gamecube, they were ‘3d puzzles’. For 4 Swords, they were ‘four player’ puzzles. For DS Zelda, they were ‘touch screen puzzles’. For Wii, I expect ‘motion control puzzles’.

And no I wouldn’t be pleased with ‘puzzles’ because they give no feeling of growth. They have little to no replay value.

I still can’t believe you are right about to get the Master Sword in Twilight Princess and then WHAM! There comes this unwelcome puzzle…

I expect Skyward Sword to have little to no overworld, to be nothing but a string of motion control puzzles in a linear fashion, and to have much ‘story’ of Link ‘coming to age’ by having a ‘leap of faith’ from the clouds. My expectations are pretty low.
